Getting settled in SA (for a month)

IMPORTANT NOTE: we are NOT moving to San Antonio.  I think we've scared a few people.  Sorry, my bad.  We are just here for a month while Dave does some training.  We are renting a furnished house and trying to keep things as close to our regular schedule as possible, with much playing on the side.

We had a slight hiccup when we arrived in San Antonio.  Trying to find a place over the internet makes it difficult to know what kind of a place you are getting.  1st place we found, not so good.  2nd place, much better!  Unfortunately, the first place had the jacuzzi tub (pretty much its only redeeming quality) which we left behind.  Good thing we got to use it.  The bubbles looked so soft and Rosie wanted in too; I couldn't resist putting on my swimsuit and joining them!

The new place is cleaner, closer to the nicer side of town, and just overall gives a better "I can stay here for a month" feeling.  There is lots of space to run around, a fenced-in back yard (though the mosquitoes are relentless!), washer/dryer, dish washer, and all the fun stuff a vacation home should have.  It even came with toys!

Our first venture into downtown by myself was quite interesting.  Eventually, I found the Children's Museum and the Riverwalk.  This was just a sneak peak for us.  We have friends who live here who will give us the official tour of the Alamo and surrounding historical sights.  It was slightly tricky to maneuver with a stroller but we had pizza and spent waaaaay too much on a piece of chocolate each.

Pete checking out at the grocery store.  They L.O.V.E.D. this play grocery store.  It was amazing to me that they knew right what to do.  It was like they entered another realm where they were in charge, hustling and bustling about, shopping, checking out, putting things back where they go, filling up the cart to the rim and doing it all over again.

The drive down days 1-2

(first time using this blogger app for my phone, we'll see how it goes)

Just a little taste of what we've been doing:
We left at 7:30 pm Sunday night and drove until 2:00 am. We stayed in Abingdon, VA. I'm not so much about driving into the night. At least I'm learning that about myself. But man those pillows felt so good!

We've watched a couple movies, a few episodes of season 5 Gilmore Girls (mother's day gift), played I Spy, sang pirate songs, snacked, crocheted, and slept. We drove past Davey Crocket's birthplace and contemplated Dollywood and Smokey Mountains National Park but decided to just keep moving.

We stopped in Knoxville TN at a park for lunch. Sidenote: We just recently watched Blind Side which was filmed in Knoxville. We met a nice family at the park and discovered that this world is, yet again, small. Another story for another day.

We made our way to Meridian, MS, a pretty nice little place that also has a Naval Air Station. We stayed in a Country Inn and Suites with way nice amenities that we didn't get to use. Nice exercise room and indoor pool and spa. Dang! Oh well, back on the road again.

Note: Do Not stop for a police in Mississippi. There are reports of someone posing as a cop. Two people have died! What?...I say what?

Next stop: New Orleans to enjoy some good Po'boy. (if that is wrong, I'm only showing that I know absolutely nothing about N'Orleans, which is why we wanna go there!)

Parades and car shows

A hot, Saturday in May, spent going to a parade and a car show:

Here are the boys ready with their bags to collect treats being handed out.

I thought these little guys were so cute!!  Their little bow ties..."Gentlemen on a Mission," love it!!

Hey, we'll take anything they hand out!!

Charlie was brave enough to run out in the street, abandon his bag of treats, and hop in the back of this loudly, honking vehicle.  Good thing his dad was driving.  What a guy!

Fast forward to the car show where all the tactical vehicles were on display.

What kid has never dreamed of sitting in a real police car with free reign of all the noise making buttons???

A real live race car.  The seat was so low their heads barely came up to the steering wheel.

A stroll down to the beach...
(I like that Pete's "cheese" smile has toned down a bit.  It is very pleasant now."

 Me and Dave...garsh

 "Wave!"

Nap time for this sweet girl.

 Dipping our feet...

Oh man, that felt good on my toes!
